Barefoot Berners

Bernese Mountain Dogs

History

Bernese Mountain dogs orginated in Switzerland.  They were bred to be farm dogs that would help with chores on the farm including pulling carts, guarding livestock and companions for farmers.  They were named for a Swiss state, Canton of Bern.  The first pair was brought to the Untied States in the 1920s by a Kansas farmer.
